ABA Treatment for Autism

Kaufman Children’s Center was one of the first clinics in Michigan to offer applied behavior analysis and remains one of the most respected providers in the state. Our ABA program focuses on early intervention up to age six, with full or half-day options. A continuum of treatment is available as the child develops: from one-on-one structed teaching to an ABA classroom setting where kids can practice their skills in a more natural environment.

Applied Behavior Analysis Programs at KCC

The intensive, center-based ABA program at Kaufman Children’s Center is for young children on the autism spectrum or who are experiencing other significant language and learning challenges.

Children attend for half days (3 hours) or full days (7 hours) depending on individual assessment and identified needs. The age range is 18 months to 6 years. We are unable to add new children to our waitlist beyond age 5 years, 6 months.

Our ABA technicians utilize the principles of applied behavior analysis (ABA), the most evidence-based intervention to address the learning needs of young children with autism spectrum disorder. The program includes both natural environment teaching (NET) and discrete trial teaching (DTT).

The goal of ABA is to jump start each child’s communication, play, and social skills by creating individualized intervention programs that can be followed by families and support/educational staff.  Daily supervision by a board-certified behavior analyst (BCBA) ensures that all teaching programs are monitored closely.

Our staff of dedicated ABA technicians receive intensive classroom instruction and hands on training before delivering ABA treatment. In addition, they are required to attain registered behavior technician (RBT) certification within the first six months of employment.

Learning Progression

Kaufman Children’s Center offers three levels of ABA, providing just the right fit for your child. We meet children at their current level and help them progress along the track to success.

Our program starts with kids working on beginning skills one-on-one with an ABA technician. As they learn and grow, they progress to pivotal skill building for emergent learners. Some children will be eligible for a classroom setting to get them ready for school.

Our Team Approach to Autism Treatment

The ABA program at Kaufman Children's Center is unique in that it includes an emphasis on communication (verbal behavior). Highly trained speech-language pathologists provide input on a daily basis to successfully address the unique needs of children and help them to understand and use language for functional and social communication.

Along with ABA and speech services, KCC offers occupational therapy to assess kids’ sensory-motor needs.

Having so many types of treatment under one roof allows for a true team approach to the treatment of autism, ensuring support of each child’s goals to the maximum extent across all settings.

ABA Facilities at KCC

KCC boasts a variety of beautiful, child-friendly spaces in which to learn and play: large classrooms for several children, shared therapy suites for those who need a quieter place in which to learn, fun and therapeutic sensory-motor gyms, thematic playrooms, and outdoor patio and playground spaces.
