Treatment
Autism can be treated. Positive outcomes depend upon cognitive functioning (intelligence) and perseverance by the professionals, and dedicated families. Autism is not necessarily curable, though individuals have been able to adapt to the environment and maximize their skills to the point that any residual autistic features are not noticeable. The future for autistic individuals is always getting brighter due to advances in understanding the origin of the disorder, and in experiencing successful interventions and programs.
The Kaufman Children's Center offers a variety of applied behavior analysis (ABA) programs with a specialization in applied verbal behavior (AVB) for children on the autism spectrum. Experienced board-certified behavior analysts and speech-language pathologists help children to understand and use language for functional and social communication. We have a variety of programs to fit your family's needs including TrainIn, a center-based ABA/AVB program; HomeRun, a home-based program; and All Aboard, an after-school program.
