Nancy Kaufman’s excellent “Sign to Talk” collaboration with Tamara Kasper is now available as an iPad app! Ideal for children who are not yet vocal imitators, the app provides a bridge from signing to vocal communication. It includes 190 everyday objects and actions that children frequently request. Each target item is represented by a photo, a video of the ASL sign, and a series of potential word approximations that can be used to guide a child toward improved articulation.

The two main sections of the app are:

The Signing Zone

• A visual dictionary containing all 190 target words divided into 12 categories.
• Students can select an individual photo and view a video demonstration of the ASL sign to assist in learning the sign.

The Therapy Zone

• Instructors can create and manage individual student accounts.
• Build customized words lists for each student.
• Document and store student performance within the “Testing Zone.”
• Collect data and view scoring reports.
• Email scoring reports and data graphs.
